With the Schengen visa fees having increased from 60 Euros to 80 Euros per visa, applicants should be careful when submitting their visa application to avoid rejection. Moreover, the visa fees will not be refunded if the Schengen visa application is rejected.
Here are nine reasons for rejection of the visa application:
- Invalid passport
The application can be rejected if the passport has a validity date which is less than three months of the expiry date of the visa. The passport must not be older than ten years.
- Damaged passport
If passport is damaged or certain pages are torn or missing, the application will be rejected.
- Providing false travel documents
If applicants present fake travel documents or provide false information, the visa can be refused. Misrepresenting the identity can even invite a travel ban.
- Purpose of visit is not clear
The visa can be rejected if the applicant fails to give any convincing reason on why he wants to visit the Schengen region. Reasons should be supported with relevant documents.
- Inadequate proof of having enough funds
The application can be rejected if the applicant cannot prove that he has enough funds to support his travel and stay in the Schengen area.
- Insufficient travel insurance coverage
Not having adequate travel insurance to cover hospital treatment or repatriation to the home country during the visit can be a reason for rejection.
- No proof of travel itinerary and accommodation
Lack of proof of flight booking, accommodation booking or the itinerary for each Schengen country that the applicant is visiting can be a reason for rejection.
- Unfavorable Schengen visa situation
If the applicant had overstayed on a previous Schengen visa or already has an active Schengen visa, the application is refused.
- Criminal record
If the applicant has a past or current criminal record, then the visa is refused.
