Despite COVID-19 special measures in place, it is business as usual in Canada immigration. Many of the top technology companies in Canada are hiring. It is believed that Canada’s tech sector holds the key to economic recovery.
In the latest Tech Draw held on May 13, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program [OINP] sent Notifications of Interest [NOIs] to 703 Express Entry candidates to apply for being provincially nominated for Canada permanent residence.
The draw issued targeted NOIs to candidates that had Canadian work experience while qualifying for Ontario’s Express Entry Human Capital Priorities [HCP] Stream.
Candidates that got an NOI had a CRS score in the range between 421 and 451.
By CRS is implied the Comprehensive Ranking System that is used for ranking the profiles in the Express Entry pool against each other. It is the highest-ranked profiles that are issued invitations in the draws.
This is the lowest CRS requirement in any Tech Draw by the OINP. The OINP held its first Tech Draw in July 2019.
Candidates that got NOIs in the May 13 draw by the OINP, had work experience in any of 6 National Occupational Classification [NOC] codes. These NOC codes are –

In order to be eligible for nomination under the OINP’s Tech Draw, an applicant must be able to demonstrate work experience in one of the eligible NOC codes. An application that does not have work experience in any of the NOC codes might be refused by the OINP.
It is through Tech Draws that the OINP aims at facilitating the recruitment of top talent globally by the businesses in the technology sector in Ontario.
For ensuring that the initiative by the OINP indeed meets the needs and requirements of Ontario employers, face-to-face consultations and a survey were held with stakeholders across the province. It is through this methodology that priority occupations were chosen for the OINP Tech Draws involving targeted technology occupations.
