PNP Update Jan-Feb 2020

Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program [PNP] is for workers that possess the education, skills as well as requisite work experience to successfully contribute towards the economy of a particular province/territory in Canada.

The cornerstone of the PNP is the intention of the applicant to settle down in the province or territory that the applicant is applying to under the PNP. The applicant must also wish to become a permanent resident of Canada.

Permanent resident status means the position of a person who has though having legally immigrated is not as yet a citizen of Canada.

What can a Canada PR do?

With a Canada PR, you can –

  • Live, study, or work anywhere throughout Canada
  • Get most social benefits
  • Apply for Canadian citizenship
  • Get protection under the Canadian Law as well as the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms

As a Canada PR, you will be required to pay your taxes and uphold the law.

How can a provincial nomination help me?

A provincial nomination gives you 600 additional points in your CRS score. CRS stands for Comprehensive Ranking System. CRS scores are allotted when the profiles are in the Express Entry pool. Used to rank profiles against each other, it is the CRS that determines who will be invited.

Not all who enter the pool get an invitation. The higher that you score on the CRS, the sooner you can expect to be invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence.

PNP is the ideal pathway for applicants facing the challenge of a low CRS. Many provinces, such as Alberta, send invitations to applicants with a CRS as low as 300. A provincial nomination leads to the addition of another 600 points, making your final CRS at 900, thereby almost guaranteeing that you will be invited in the next draw to be held.

PNP Update for January – February 2020

Canada has a total of 10 provinces and 3 territories.

Of these, 9 provinces and 2 territories are part of the PNP. While Nunavut does not have any plan for immigration, Quebec has its own program for the induction of newcomers into the province.

In January – February 2020, many PNP draws were held. Some of them linked with the federal Express Entry system.

Provinces that held draws in January – February 2020: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and Prince Edward Island.
