The latest Canberra Matrix invitation round was held on April 14, 2020. While 78 nominations were issued for ACT 491 Nomination, another 62 invitations were issued for ACT 190 Nomination.
ACT stands for Australian Capital Territory. Canberra, along with being the capital of ACT state, is also the capital of Australia.
Those interested in migrating to the Land Down Under and living in Canberra, might be eligible for applying for ACT nomination for an Australia Skilled Migration visa.
ACT offers nomination for the following Australian work visas –
| Skilled Regional [provincial] subclass 491 |
| Skilled Nominated [permanent] subclass 190 |
For being considered for an ACT nomination, the candidate must begin by formally expressing an interest in the same.
Expression of interest for ACT nomination is to be done through completing a score-based Canberra Matrix. The Matrix allots points based on demonstrated economic benefit or contribution to the ACT community. A genuine commitment to be part of the ACT community must also be established.
Invitation rounds are held regularly. Every month, candidates with the highest rank on the Canberra Matrix will be selected and invited for an ACT State nomination, also referred to as ACT State Sponsorship.
All those applying for ACT 491 /190 nomination are required to meet the eligibility criteria on the date of their submission of Canberra Matrix. However, applicants that have been impacted by COVID-19 can request a waiver of the eligibility criteria of “continuous employment” under certain circumstances.
If an applicant receives an invitation to apply for ACT State Nomination for 491 / 190, any request for a COVID-19 waiver must be attached, in writing, to the application. Supporting documentation as proof will also have to be submitted.

Note –
- All Matrix expire 6 months after the submission date if an invitation is not issued.
- Previous invitation round held on April 3, 2020 – total 83 invitations issued for ACT 491, and 94 invitations issued for ACT 190.
- The next invitation round is expected to be held on or before April 30, 2020
